Barweer: Antiques Shop Modular Review [Xbert 66055]

Image
People will often try to convince you that spending more money is the only way to achieve great work. This is exactly the kind of modular I love: compact, characterful, easy to integrate into a city, and proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a great build. A small, charming modular that punches well above its price I picked this up from barweer.com, and it continues a trend I’ve been really happy with — I’ve been consistently impressed with their products, especially when it comes to modular-style builds. This one immediately appealed to me because it sits in that sweet spot I really enjoy: small footprint, strong character, and easy city integration. At first glance, this is clearly on the cheaper end of the scale, but that absolutely doesn’t translate into cheap quality. Quite the opposite, actually. First Impressions The Antiques Shop is a lovely little modular. It doesn’t try to be grand or oversized, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The design is ...

iAmBrickToy Xeno Striker: A cyber-punky, steampunk-leaning figure build that surprised me more than expected

Image
I’m not usually a fan of figure builds, but the Xeno Striker surprised me — bold colours, a strong steampunk-leaning cyberpunk vibe, and far more playability than I expected. I’ll start with a bit of honesty, because that’s always been important in my reviews: I’m not normally a fan of figure-type builds. They don’t usually do much for me. I tend to gravitate toward architectural builds, modulars, and sets that feel more environment-driven than character-focused. So going into the Xeno Striker, expectations were fairly measured. What I didn’t expect was just how much I’d enjoy both the process and the finished result. First Impressions & Theme Opening the box, the first thing that immediately stood out was the colour palette. It’s bold, confident, and clearly intentional. There’s a strong cyber-punk influence, but it’s blended with mechanical, steampunk-style detailing that gives it weight and character. It doesn’t feel like pure sci-fi, and it doesn’t feel like traditi...

Lumibricks Steampunk Steamphant: A mechanical build that proves again Lumibricks really understand steampunk

Lumibricks Steampunk Steamphant Review A mechanical build that proves Lumibricks really understand steampunk I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into the Steampunk Steamphant, but it didn’t take long to realise this was another example of Lumibricks doing steampunk in a way that feels confident, playful, and genuinely well thought out. This isn’t a big architectural modular or a shelf-only showpiece. It’s a character-driven build, and from the start it feels like something that’s meant to be interacted with — not just admired from a distance. Build Experience The build itself is enjoyable and well paced. At around 1,055 pieces, it feels substantial without dragging. Progress is steady, instructions are clear, and you always have a sense of where things are heading. What stood out quickly is how much movement is built into the design. The head, legs, trunk, and tail all articulate, and they do so in a way that feels intentional rather than gimmicky. As sections come tog...

BlueBrixx Peanuts Advent Calendar Review

BlueBrixx Peanuts Advent Calendar Review Slow builds, small bricks, and shared moments Overview & First Impressions This was one of those sets that immediately felt like it was about more than just the builds. From the moment we opened the box, I knew this wasn’t going to be something rushed through in a few evenings. The whole point of this calendar is to slow things down — and that’s exactly what we ended up doing. What really sold it for me early on was building it with my kids. Instead of being a solo build at the table, it became something we shared, one section at a time. That alone gave this set far more value than I expected going in. And if I’m being honest, a big part of the appeal here is simply Peanuts. I love Peanuts. Snoopy, Woodstock, the whole world — it already had a head start with me. Build Experience Let’s be clear: these are microbricks (diamond blocks) and they are tiny. Combine that with my not-exactly-delicate fingers and this was never going to ...

Lumibricks Steampunk Memory Magic Shop Review: Gears, glow, and a confident step forward

Image
O verview & First Impressions As I started this build, a couple of questions kept coming back to me. Has the quality changed again… or is it just me? Has the lighting changed… or is it just me? Lumibricks have always delivered solid, well-priced sets with strong themes and integrated lighting, but almost immediately the Steampunk Memory Magic Shop felt different. Not dramatically so — nothing that jumps out in the first few minutes — but enough that it made me stop and pay attention. This felt like familiar territory, yet subtly refined. At its core, this is still very much a Lumibricks modular: rich steampunk styling, strong architectural presence, and lighting baked into the design. But as the build progressed, it began to feel less like another variation and more like a natural evolution. LUMIBRICKS are not some alternative- they are established in their own right. Im glad to see them enter the market with such quality and fun. Build Experience The build experience here is...
