Lumibricks Steampunk Steamphant: A mechanical build that proves again Lumibricks really understand steampunk
Lumibricks Steampunk Steamphant Review
A mechanical build that proves Lumibricks really understand steampunk
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into the Steampunk Steamphant, but it didn’t take long to realise this was another example of Lumibricks doing steampunk in a way that feels confident, playful, and genuinely well thought out.
This isn’t a big architectural modular or a shelf-only showpiece. It’s a character-driven build, and from the start it feels like something that’s meant to be interacted with — not just admired from a distance.
Build Experience
The build itself is enjoyable and well paced. At around 1,055 pieces, it feels substantial without dragging. Progress is steady, instructions are clear, and you always have a sense of where things are heading.
What stood out quickly is how much movement is built into the design. The head, legs, trunk, and tail all articulate, and they do so in a way that feels intentional rather than gimmicky. As sections come together, you naturally start posing it, adjusting stances, and seeing what it can do.
It never feels like you’re rushing to get to the finished model — the build is enjoyable in its own right.
Design & Detail
Visually, this is classic Lumibricks steampunk done right. Gears, pipes, and mechanical details are everywhere, but they’re used with restraint. Nothing feels overdone or slapped on just to tick a theme box.
The metallic-style elements and printed parts add depth, and the overall silhouette of the Steamphant is strong and recognisable. It feels like a character rather than just a model — something that belongs in a wider steampunk world.
Playable and Sturdy
This is where the Steamphant really shines.
It’s playable, and more importantly, it’s sturdy. You can pick it up, move it around, pose it, and even use it in small games or story-based play without constantly worrying that something is going to fall apart.
We’ve had it involved in tabletop games and imaginative play, and it’s held up really well. That balance between movement and structural integrity isn’t easy to get right, but Lumibricks have managed it here.
It’s refreshing to build something steampunk-themed that doesn’t feel fragile the moment you touch it.
Lighting Kit – A Small Personal Challenge
The lighting kit looks great once installed, but this was probably the only area where I had a bit of a challenge — and honestly, that’s likely just me.
Running wires through a smaller, more organic, articulated build takes more planning than lighting a boxy building. You need to slow down, think about cable routing, and follow the instructions carefully. It’s not difficult, but it does require patience.
Once it’s done, though, the lighting adds another layer of character and really complements the mechanical look of the Steamphant.
Final Thoughts
The Steampunk Steamphant sits in a really nice space between display model and playable build. It’s fun to assemble, solid once finished, and engaging enough that you actually want to interact with it.
⭐ Overall Rating: 8 / 10
It’s not the biggest or most complex set, but it doesn’t try to be. What it does instead is deliver a build with personality, movement, and real play value — and it does that very well.
A Final Note on Lumibricks & Steampunk
One thing that’s become really clear to me is just how well Lumibricks do steampunk. This isn’t a one-note theme for them — the variety is genuinely impressive.
From architectural builds to character-driven models like the Steamphant, each set approaches steampunk from a different angle while still feeling part of the same world. They don’t just rely on gears and brass colours for effect; the designs feel considered, playful where they should be, and confident in their identity.
That variety is what keeps things interesting. Lumibricks aren’t just repeating the same idea — they’re exploring the theme, and doing it really well.
