Pantasy Architecture Firm (85041) — Modular Majesty | Designer Insight Interview
The best modular set and design experience I’ve had since building a LEGO Police Station.
From the moment you open the box to the final placement on the shelf, the Pantasy Architecture Firm (85041) feels special. This isn’t just another modular building — it’s a statement piece, and one that firmly places Pantasy at the front of the modular conversation.
I was so impressed with this build that I reached out to the designer directly with a few questions. What came back only reinforced what I already felt during the build — this set exists because of vision, restraint, and an almost stubborn commitment to doing things properly.
Box & Presentation — Premium, and Only the Beginning
The box quality immediately gives that premium feel — but it quickly becomes clear that this is only the start.
Not only have Pantasy introduced their first official lighting kit, they’ve done it in a way that absolutely shouts: we always could do this, we can do it better, and we’re here to stay. This feels less like a cautious step forward and more like a company that has driven hard into a market they previously had no foothold in — and emerged as front runners.
From the designer signature on the box, through to the internal padding and the beautifully presented lighting components, everything reinforces that message.
As the designer explained:
“I decided to collaborate with Pantasy because of their exceptional quality and beautiful package design. It’s also a huge honor for me that this is their first product to feature LED lighting.”
There’s a real sense of confidence here. The lighting doesn’t feel bolted on or experimental — it feels fully realised. The result is a sense of majesty and premium presence, before a single brick is placed.
Build Experience — A Vision Earned, Not Rushed
This is a long, involved build — and that’s a compliment. The Architecture Firm isn’t designed to be rushed, and knowing what went into it only deepens that appreciation.
The designer shared just how much work went on behind the scenes:
“It took about three months in total, with two of those months dedicated just to the planning stage. This piece underwent more changes than any of my previous works.”
(Development Photo: "I managed to find one photo of the building process! It looks quite different from the final release; I believe that photo shows about the 10th revision. The final design was only decided after another 20 or so rounds of modifications".)
That effort is felt in every section. The build maintains interest throughout and never drops into filler. Progress feels earned, and each floor brings something new without ever breaking the overall flow.
He also spoke openly about restraint:
“I spent a lot of time adding ‘popular’ elements and then stripping them away again to stay true to my original vision.”
That discipline is exactly why the finished model feels so strong.
Design & Architecture — Honest, Powerful, Beautiful
This isn’t contrived. This truly is a beautiful design.
The Architecture Firm doesn’t rely on tricks or visual noise. It feels honest and purposeful — a building that knows exactly what it wants to be.
“I wanted to create something you don’t usually see in retail sets — a building that feels dark and monotonous, yet exudes strength and presence.”
The inspiration is clear but never overplayed:
“The mood of this building is inspired by the works of Japanese architect Tadao Ando. I wanted to capture the cold, raw beauty of exposed concrete.”
That coldness is offset perfectly by contrast:
“The brown wooden cladding against the grey façade adds an unexpected warmth.”
The exposed staircase at the rear is another standout — bold, architectural, and unapologetically functional.
This feels like a design that was understood before it was built — not assembled first and justified later.
Interior & Detail — Purpose Over Excess
Inside, the philosophy remains consistent. Each floor feels intentional. Nothing exists just to inflate part count, and nothing distracts from the overall structure.
The modular construction works exactly as it should. The building opens cleanly, displays beautifully both open and closed, and remains solid throughout.
Lighting — An Unexpected Elevation
Interestingly, lighting wasn’t part of the original design concept.
“I didn’t initially design this model with lighting in mind. The LED effects were developed by the team at Pantasy.”
That makes the final result even more impressive. The lighting enhances depth and texture without overpowering the architecture. It feels restrained, thoughtful, and genuinely transformative once switched on.
Build Quality — Solid and Precise
Brick quality is excellent. Connections are firm, alignment is clean, and the finished structure feels strong and well engineered. There were no weak sections and no moments of frustration.
This is a confident build backed by strong design.
Display Presence — A Modular Centrepiece
Once complete, the Architecture Firm doesn’t just sit on a shelf — it anchors it. Whether displayed alone or among other modulars, it naturally draws the eye.
Knowing the final design was only locked in after dozens of revisions explains why it feels so resolved and complete.
Score & Final Judgement — 9 / 10
I’m giving the Pantasy Architecture Firm (85041) a 9 out of 10.
This is genuinely one of my favourite modulars I’ve ever built, and I’ve built a lot. It is now my personal benchmark for modular design and build experience.
So why not a perfect 10?
There are only two reasons — and both are worth being honest about.
1. Instruction colour matching
This is still something Pantasy need to improve. That said, I do see progress over time — they’re clearly moving in the right direction. It just needs to edge a little closer to being spot on. At times, colour differentiation can still make certain steps trickier than they should be.
2. The figures
These figures have their fans — I know that. But personally, I’d rather they simply weren’t included here. They don’t fit the sophistication or architectural language of this build and feel out of place against such a refined and beautiful design.
Neither of these issues take away from what this set achieves — but they do stop it from being a perfect score.
Final Thoughts
The Pantasy Architecture Firm is confident, restrained, and unapologetically architectural. It doesn’t chase trends or shout for attention — it stands on its own merit.
This set has raised the bar for me. From now on, this is the benchmark everything else will be judged against.
Pantasy aren’t just competing in the modular space anymore — they’re leading.
